Italian Treasures with Sorrento
About Doges Palace, Italy
This vacation does not just include highlight cities like Rome, Florence, and Venice, but also includes overnight stays in Lucca, and in St. Francis’ Assisi. All major sights have been included, such as St. Peter’s, the Sistine Chapel, and the Colosseum in Rome, Michelangelo’s David in Florence, St. Mark’s, and the Doges’ Palace with the Bridge of Sighs in Venice – which you enter by private boat, and St. Francis’ Basilica and St. Clare’s Church in Assisi. This vacation offers even more: a special welcome dinner at a lively Roman restaurant, a lunch stop in Pisa to marvel at the Leaning Tower, a walking tour of Siena, famous for the biannual, medieval-style horse race, the Palio, and stops in picturesque San Gimignano; at Verrazzano Castle, where you will taste the famous Chianti wine and enjoy dinner; and in Verona to see Juliet’s balcony and the Arena. A special highlight is the excursion from Lucca to Cinque Terre (departures March 31-October 27), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, including boat (weather permitting) and train rides, plus a light lunch consisting of traditional Italian snacks like focaccia di Recco and farinata. You’ll also travel along the picturesque Adriatic coastline to Ravenna and admire the mosaics in the 6th-century Basilica of St. Apollinaris in Classe, and stop in Orvieto, perched high atop a volcanic rock, where you can taste local pastries at a traditional pasticceria. Return to Rome, where a farewell dinner with wine and opera entertainment awaits you. Transfer by high-speed train to Sorrento; enjoy three nights and a morning guided walking tour through the Old Town. All services, including Local Host assistance, are provided by Monograms.
